About the Rankings

The Census Bureau has released the latest estimates from the American Community Survey for all cities in Florida with a population of 60,000 or more with sufficient data to estimate the median multiple. We have crunched the numbers and the rankings are in. See the 53 places in Florida with the lowest median multiple below, and the highest median multiple places at the bottom of the list.

To determine housing affordability, we compare local home prices with local incomes. The median multiple answers the question, "how many years would it take for the median income to pay off the median home price?" Lower values indicate that incomes in the area are high enough to make it easier to pay off a home. Anything under 3 is considered affordable.

The Florida median multiple from the latest estimates is 4.1 and has risen 4.7% from 3.9.

This year saw several big changes. Deltona, FL rose from #2 to #1, Largo, FL rose from #10 to #2, Riverview, FL rose from #5 to #3, Spring Hill, FL fell from #1 to #4, and Alafaya, FL rose from #19 to #5.
